Crank it all up to create that sharp, clear, cutting noise... just experiment. For the Dm during the verse part, apply a clean guitar sound with not so much bass. Then, you need a harmonizer to make the solo parts (and also the guitars in the 3-guitar solo) sound close to the original. Set it to -1 octave at moderate to good volume and then use a distortion not quite as loud as the one for the rhythm guitar, and with more treble. Quite complex, isn't it :-)? The guitar picking part in the transition: You can use the same distortion as for the rhythm guitar, but turn the volume down a bit... and let the strings ring as long as possible! As you'll notice, there are only two main ways of picking though the chords used during the transition are actually four!
